PROJECT
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Each
year the John Knox family celebrates the joy of Jesus birth by
sharing the many blessings God has given each of us.
Christmas wish lists are collected from agencies around town for
families who need help providing gifts and food for their
children or for those single
folk who want to be remembered by someone at Christmastime.
JK members are always there to share their blessings. It is
often hard to tell who enjoys this more, the receivers or the
givers. Members adopt an angel (a family or two) and the joy
begins. Our Deacons buy food for each
family
always ensuring that each home gets a turkey or a ham for their
Christmas dinner; the food boxes also include many canned goods,
bread, milk and eggs. The Deacons also take special notice of
the families with school children and make sure that new school
supplies are included.
The project begins in July when unwrapped toys for all ages are
brought to the church. Once our “Angels” are identified, the
toys are matched with
the wish lists ensuring every child gets at least one toy.
By early December, everyone is buzzing with action, either
organizing the food boxes or shopping for gifts and before we
know it the delivery day
has
arrived. Some JK members will deliver the gifts and food to
their adopted families themselves, but if they cannot we have
many members eager to deliver for them. The Sunday before
Christmas Fellowship Hall fills up with boxes of food and gifts
and the fun begins. Trucks and cars are loaded……drivers are
given a Bible to deliver to each house they will visit…..then
off to the adopted Angels homes. They are often waiting at the
door. As the boxes and presents appea r,
the tears begin to form in everyone’s eyes. “Thank you for
helping me give my children a joyful Christmas” “God Bless you”
It is an experience that no-one can forget and that everyone is
eager to repeat year after year. If you feel called to help our
Deacons, please call the church office at 742-5528.
