CHILD
DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The mission of the John Knox Child Development Center is to
meet the needs of those in the community who require quality
all-day care for their children. In addition to meeting the
individual needs we also encourage spiritual development by
including Christian based stories and activities in our
curriculum. The CDC children two-years-old and older attend
chapel on a weekly basis. The Child Development Center operates
as a mission program of John Knox Presbyterian Church which
confesses faith in Jesus Christ and endeavors to live out the
faith in a variety of ways.
The Child Development Center will be one expression of that
faith, and providing a Christian environment of love, concern
and wholeness, in which to nurture and educate young children
will be a key component of JKCDC.

Staff
JKCDC chooses their teachers and care givers based on their
ability to work caringly and effectively with your child(ren).
The teachers are required to have CPR, First Aid and Fire Safety
training. All teachers attend early childhood conferences and
workshops throughout each year. Teachers are trained in handling
tornado and severe weather emergencies. Fire drills will occur
once a month. |

Classes
We at JKCDC believe every child has unique, individual potential
and deserves the opportunity to develop his/her own physical,
social, emotional and intellectual talents. Keeping with this
belief, we provide an environment that nurtures good character,
creativity and development through age and individual
appropriate activities.
Children ages 2, 3, 4 and 5 will receive our preschool program
each day. Our goals will be to see your child develop the utmost
of his/her potential in all areas of his/her development:
social, physical, emotional and intellectual.

will be posted each month listing the lunches that we serve each
day. If the children are on a field trip during lunch time the
center will provide a sack lunch for the field trip. If the
children are on the field trip during snack time the children
will receive their snack when they return to the center. If your
child arrives between 7:00am and 8:30am you may bring breakfast

Weather
When the weather is extremely bad due to ice and snow JKCDC will
make every effort to open in order for our parents to go to
work. However, there will be times when it is too dangerous for
the staff to drive. When in doubt call the school at 742-7656 to
listen to the phone message. If we are opening late or closing
due to the weather, the message will reflect any decisions that
have been made. |

Field Trips
JKCDC begins transporting children to field trips at age five.
Parents are notified in advance when their child(ren) will be
attending a field trip. Notification will be posted on the
classroom door. Please do not send extra spending money with
your child(ren) on field trips. Emergency information for each
child is kept in the van. If children arrive at the center after
their class has left for a field trip, they will be placed in
another classroom until their class returns. |

Parent Association
The Parents Association is an organization for you, the parent.
Parents have the opportunity to meet once each month to discuss
concerns and ideas. We encourage you to become active in the
organization. The Parents Association votes annually for two
members that represent the parents on the John Knox CDC Board.
